Honey Business

In 2010 trustees from the Wynaud Trust were approached and asked by rural honey producers to assist them with the sale of honey.

Following discussion with the Honey Association of Zambia and a feasibility study the Wynaud Trust has invested in a new business in Zambia to buy honey and related products and export to the UK.

This is the largest project to date that the Wynaud Trust has undertaken. The business is based in Kabompo and was set up in June 2012.

As a Trust we are supporting a group of 200 Beekeepers- not with money but with help and advice. The Beekeepers make their own hives form Bark and they harvest twice a year. The honey is collected and brought to a central Honey factory in Kapompo where it is pressed and treated and put into barrels. The barrels are then exported to the UK where Lush cosmetics buy the Honey.

Once the business is established the profit will be re-invested in expanding the company, with a percentage being put back into community development projects

In January 2013 Lush Cosmetics visited our honey factory in Kabompo. A short film was made of this visit, which will tell you more about beekeeping in Zambia.
