Bounty Bags for New Mothers

As a Trust, we are committed to supporting the local clinics in Mumbeji and in Kabulamema.

In Zambia there is a high level of infant and maternal mortality. The death rate during pregnancy and labour is 25 times greater than in the United Kingdom.  There are a number of reasons for this. Local health clinics are not well resourced and the hospitals are significant distances away. In addition, many women do not attend the clinic for childbirth due to fear of medical services.

The main support offered is the provision of “Bounty Bags”, with items of baby clothing and other items. These are given to women as an incentive for them to attend the clinic for ante-natal and post natal check ups.

The Kabulamema clinic has the second highest attendance rate in the whole of Kabompo District. This has positive health outcomes for mothers and children.

In addition, support has been given to the provision of a shelter for pregnant mothers to stay prior to giving birth both in Kabulamema and recently in Mumbeji.
