Our university/ college programme typically supports 8 to 12 young people each year. Students study a range of different courses including nursing, clinical medicine, environmental health, public health, midwifery, and teaching. Successful completion enables the individual to secure employment and support themselves and their families. Young people who have done well at school can apply for support, with the recommendation of their Head Teacher. The family circumstances are taken into account and financial support is given. Wherever possible, it is expected that families will contribute towards the cost. Typically the fees, accommodation and living costs amount to between £1500 to £2000 per year, which is not achievable for most families.
Not all young people are academically successful. We also support children who have attended school regularly but have not achieved high enough grades to transition into higher education. The Trust has supported a number of young men and woman to undertake vocational courses such as excavator operation, nursery care, and agriculture.
Since 2004, we have impacted the lives of many through our various programs. We have seen children who were living in poverty; thrive at school; continue to further education; secure employment and as a result support their families and flourish. We have many examples of young people who have been successful.
